Dadaism
I love this painting by Georg Grosz. He was part of a cabal of lefty, anti-war artists and intellectuals known as Dadaists. They actually considered themselves anti-artists (whatever that is.) They emerged from the first World War I period with a justifiably angry belief that bourgeois geopolitical interests had unleashed unprecedented carnage upon humanity, and that anti-art must be employed to oppose bourgeois staus quo art. Prior to the end of the war, Rosa Luxembourg and V.I. Lenin used to hang out with them. They heralded a variety of unique new styles for representing reality, often somewhat grotesque and exagerated. Their impact was subversive, provocative and profond.
