Response to NDP Post

Hey El Moe: Good to hear your voice yesterday. Didn't have time to read your piece in depth....believe the NDP are playing party politics. If they were in power they'd be spouting a different line. As my mother's anarchist bumper sticker read "Don't vote, it only encourages them".
But.....general comment. We know historically so-called peace-keeping forces have a 'piece-keeping' agenda. I've come to the place where there is no justification for any war. All uniformed, armed, state and non-state supported soldiers commit atrocities against their supposed enemies. People who take up arms to defend themselves do the same, maybe not on the same scale, but it happens.
If we human beings can't get over ourselves we're toast, literally.
Back to work,
Love to you, Roisin

I dunno, Roisín. I know what you are saying and nothwithstanding what I wrote, I am ambivalent. May Martin Luther King was right when he said The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?, 1967)

Still, it defensive violence, or violence in defense of the weak persecute by the cruel never justified. Perhaps, if one believes that this is not all there is, if one has that kind of Faith, perhaps the bravest thing a person can do is stand in the way of the persecution, knowing it will often be an sacrifice. Maybe you are right.
